According to data of the Latvian bureau on insurance of vehicles (LTAB), in 2006 it has been paid возмещений for the sum of 21,42 million Ls. It on 39 % more than for the similar period of 2005. In turn the gain of awards has made only 5,6 %, or 24,8 million Ls. |
Prompt growth of the size возмещений, connected with the policy of obligatory insurance of vehicles ОСТА, in association explain the increased costs on car repairs: on the one hand, there was a rise in price of services of car-care centres, cost of power resources and autospare parts has increased, with another thanks to favourable conditions of leasing the people began to buy more actively new cars, therefore warranty service manage much more expensively.
As has informed Telegraph press-secretary LTAB Инесе Озолиня, growth of costs was influenced also by a sharp competition in the insurance market. Today each company tries to offer the insurance under the most favourable prices. As a result the Latvian automobile owners still can get insurance ОСТА under the prices, which much more low, than in other Europe.
More likely malus, than bonus
As a whole 2006 insurers have finished with the losses which size has made 4,27 million Ls. It is necessary to notice, that losses in 2005 were the lowest lately and made all 292 thousand Ls. In parallel it insurers should reckon with the obligatory costs provided by the law. In 2006 they have made 2,2 million Ls.
Despite the losses, some insurance companies still consider, that the system entered in last year bonus-malus, providing system of discounts for policy OCTA for accurate drivers, works successfully and bears fruit. The Latvian system works by a principle similar in Europe. In system of 17 classes, and depending on in what class the owner of the car enters, it receives the discount or is compelled to pay more for the insurance. For the first time buying the insurance, the person gets to 6th class. At “good behaviour” it is possible to rise in classes above and to receive the discount.
According to data LTAB, last year the class has changed more than half of all Latvian autodrivers.

Thanks to increase in quantity of vehicles last year market OSTA has grown also. The last year’s tendency when the size возмещений grows much faster, than the size of awards At the same time has remained. It is possible to name a rise in prices for insurance ОСТА minimum, and it has concerned mainly those automobile owners who are in low classes of system bonus-malus. Despite a high rate of inflation, cost ОСТА still remains very low. Even in next to Estonia and Lithuania these policies stand more expensively.
