Earlier by way of intermediate term development of National armed forces (НВС) the government already has provided republics on these purposes софинансирование at a rate of 5,5 million латов. Now there is already begun detailed development of the plan for development of an infrastructure of air station. As emphasizes Слактерис, with development of military air station " Лиелварде " opportunities of carrying out by forces НВС of search and rescue works will essentially increase: the air station is in the center of Latvia that provides the optimal on time the helicopter message with all regions of the country. In turn development of military base with improvement of an infrastructure and creation of new workplaces will promote development of region as a whole.
According to the Ministry of Defence, military air station " Лиелварде " is conceived mainly under national needs of Latvia. In territory of its base it is planned to unite the countries of a communication system placed nowadays in various items, the personnel and technics of Air forces. Simultaneously, in case of need, the air station will be used for needs of aircraft of NATO, for example, for maintenance of operations on patroling air space or transport transportations. While in Latvia only international airport " Riga " is capable to provide such functions. In the meantime in the future at extreme situations military air station " Лиелварде " can be used as reserve to airport " Riga ".
